Wet & Dry Risers for Scotland and the UK
We can Design and install new wet/dry riser systems, as well as inspect and test of existing systems. All works are carried out to meet with BS 5306 part 1. Before any Installation of wet or Dry Risers, the local fire authorities must be consulted to ascertain their exact requirements.
Wet/Dry Risers are intended to be used by the Fire Brigade or other trained personnel to provide a readily available means of delivering considerable quantities of water to fight or prevent the spread of fire.
Since the Fire Brigade uses Wet/Dry Riser systems, particular attention must be paid to the design of the system to ensure the valves are correctly sited, with adequate space to enable efficient use of the apparatus.
Dry Risers generally comprise of vertical mains, which are fitted into staircase enclosures or other suitable positions, with inlet valves fitted at ground level to enable the Fire Brigade connection from the water supply. Outlet valves are positioned at all other levels of the building.
Wet Risers are similar but the main difference is that it is kept permanently charged with water available either from a storage tank via a booster pump, or fed directly from the towns’ main supply.
Buildings between 18m-60m will generally have Dry Risers installed. Buildings over 60m will have Wet Risers Installed.
British Standard 5306: Part 1 recommends that the system be visually inspected every 6 months and serviced annually which includes a “Full Wet Test” to a pressure of 10 bar, when the system can be checked for faults.
The annual testing and Maintenance of both Wet & Dry Risers is the responsibility of the property owners or managing agents.
NEED FOR MAINTANENCE AND SERVICING
- Because of the location of Risers they are prone to neglect
- If valves are not closed and locked could impair fire
- There are severe penalties from insurers and Fire services
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU ARE RISKING LIFE SAFTEY!!
